Solar Panels Are The Future

If you already don’t have solar panels, it’s about time you do. Modern solar panels produce a lot of energy, a lot more than they used to. This means that you don’t have to be dependent on your electricity company, especially if you live somewhere with high levels of sunlight.

Even the car industry is moving away from oil and to electricity. So why should you still get your electricity from coal power plants and others like it? Not only is solar greener, but unlike nuclear energy, it isn’t at all hazardous. If you can afford it, there is absolutely no reason you should not get solar panels.

How Solar Panels Work

There are certain materials that produce electricity when exposed to light due to the photovoltaic effect. This produces direct current (DC) and goes into an inverter that converts it to alternating current (AC). AC is the same type as you get from the power grid and that you get from plugging your phone into your wall socket.

Do note that any excess power that you aren’t using will be wasted. However if you’re still connected to the power grid, the excess power can be fed back to it. Usually, your electricity provider may pay you for this but be sure to check with them first.

A better solution to feeding electricity back to the grid is to store it in a battery. This way if you get disconnected from the grid or there’s a power outage, you can still have power even when there isn’t any sunlight. This way you can truly be independent of your power grid and actually start to profit from it.

When we install solar panels we primarily face them north at an optimal angle to get direct view of the sun and try to avoid any shadows from trees on nearby buildings covering them.

What’s The Price?

With all the incentives to go solar and with recent innovations leading to lower prices, you can get solar panels installed for around $5000-$12,000 (not including rebates). Of course, the price varies depending on how many kilowatts (kW) you’re getting. Back in 2009, a 1kW system would set you back $10,000. People usually manage to get their money back in as low as 2.5 - 4 years, not to mention start to earn profit afterwards.

With these prices solar is definitely an investment worth looking into. If you are interested, we suggest the best way to start is we come to your house, do an audit to calculate your electricity usage and get just enough panels to cover it.

Advantages and Disadvantages

A major disadvantage is the initially installation price. However even that has been going down recently as there are a lot of government incentives and tax cuts. The only other disadvantage is if you live somewhere that doesn’t get enough sun which is highly unlikely when you are living in Australia.

There are many advantages when installing solar panels. From energy independence to actually making money. This simple fact of that no matter how much you pay for them over time you will get that money back and afterwards it’s all profit. Other advantages include environmental care eg reducing your amount of carbon footprint in Australia and the ability to not being affected by power outages.
